Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: I need to rent a bike, how do I do that?
A: Call Revolution Bicycles and ask for Samantha during regular business hours (noted at right of this page). Please have your credit card ready. We will take a payment of $375 which covers the $200 rental fee and the $175 deposit. Once the payment has been made, your reservation is guaranteed.
Q: I reserved and paid for a bike, but I changed my mind. Can I cancel?
A: You may cancel your reservation up until delivery day, (August 11th for Freshmen). There is a $20 processing fee for all cancelled reservations to cover credit card processing and bank fees and administrative costs. After delivery day August 11th, there are no cancellations. If you decide you really don't want the bike, we will retrieve it and refund your $175 deposit, but the $200 rental fee is non-refundable.
Q: Where and when do I get my bike?
A: All rental bikes will be delivered to campus by opening day, August 11th and locked up at the bike shelter. Once you have completed your reservation, we will provide you with the bike ID# and the combination to the lock. You simply retrieve the bike and ride away!
Q: How do I get my deposit back?
A: The $175 deposit you pay at the beginning of the term is fully refundable provided that you return the bike with all of its parts attached, the lock and the helmet. We expect the bike to show signs of reasonable wear due to being ridden through all seasons. If there is damage to the bike that requires replacement parts, we may deduct a portion of your deposit to cover costs. You will be provided with a complete break down of costs at that time. We also deduct for missing helmets and locks: Locks $15 and Helmets $18.
All deposits will be refunded in the form of a check mailed to the address you provide within 10 days of return of the bike.
Q: Does this bike come with a lock and a helmet?
Q: Do the bikes come with baskets and lights?
A: In order to keep the cost of the rental bikes low, we do not include optional accessories like baskets and lights in the rental fee. We do offer these items for purchase and we will happily install any optional accessories onto the bike. We encourage renters to order these accessories when you make your reservation to save time and have everything ready on pick up day, but you can purchase accessories from us at any time and we will get them to you and installed as quickly as possible.
Q: All the bikes look the same. How do I know which one is mine?
A: You are welcome and even encouraged to personalize your rental bike to make it easy to identify. We recommend stickers, colorful duct tape, even small amounts of paint. Please do not remove any parts or paint your whole bike another color.
Q: Is this a girl's bike?
A: No! It is a step-thru model. Very European. And everyone gets the same model of bike.
Q: I got a flat tire, my brakes are rubbing, my chain fell off, Help! What do I do?
A: These bikes are provided by and serviced by Revolution Bicycles in Saugerties, NY, about a 35 minute drive from the BARD campus. We will make periodic trips to the campus to service the bikes in groups where possible. Each time our mechanic makes a trip to campus, we will contact all the renters via email to let everyone know of the time, date and location of the service. In the event that your bike needs service in between visits, we will make every effort to get over to campus to fix your bike in a timely manner; however, due to the demands of the business, we may need a few days in order to do that. We highly recommend that you contact the BARD Bike Co-op to help with minor repairs and flat tire fixes.
Q: My bike got stolen on campus. Now what?
A: Immediately contact campus security and give them the serial number for your bike (provided to you when you rented it) and any description that will help identify it. Call Revolution to let us know and to get your serial number if you have lost it. Keep your eyes peeled. It is probably on campus somewhere! As long as you can get it back to us by the end of the year, we can still refund your deposit; however we do not refund deposits for any bikes that are not returned to us. If you can't find your bike anywhere, and need a replacement, please call Revolution and we will discuss options with you.
Q: I'm leaving BARD before the end of the term, what do I do?
A: Call Revolution and let us know you are ending your rental early. We will retrieve the bike from you and refund your deposit.
Q: I will be back at BARD for the next school year. Can I rent again?
A: Yes! The fee for a re-rent is $100. We will pick up your bike at the end of the school year, clean it up, tune it up, and get it all back into shape, then redeliver the bike to you on campus for the following semester and continue to provide the same service and support. Please Call Revolution to let us know if you want to re-rent and we will take care of it from there.
Q: I really love this bike. Can I keep it?
A:Yes. You may keep the bike. We will simply keep your deposit. If you decide to go this route, please call Revolution to let us know.
Q: I think I would rather just buy a bike. Can I do that?
A: Yes! Revolution Bicycles is a full service bike shop with a complete line of great bikes from brands like TREK, Schwinn, GT and Electra for sale. We even have reconditioned vintage bikes. If you purchase a bike from us at the beginning of the term, we will deliver it to the campus at no charge since we are going back and forth a lot, anyway. Feel free to pay us a visit and we will get you all set up.If you can't come to us in person, give us a call and we'll do our best to get you set up over the phone and bring your new bike to you.
